ABOUT MY GERMAN GROUP COURSES
Learning German Online for Kids
On Deutschkids, I offer online courses for literate children from the age of 6. The German courses are designed for children without prior knowledge and are based on the elementary language application of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Classes take place online using Zoom, a video conferencing software. In the German course we work with textbooks for German as a foreign language. Here you can find information on course types, requirements, course structure, lesson structure, course management and material.
COURSE STRUCTURE
Constructive modules
Each course consists of 10 consecutive modules. One module lasts 4 weeks and corresponds to one chapter of the course book. Classes take place online once or twice a week. The sessions last 40 minutes in small groups of up to 8 students. Each module ends with a test. After passing the test, the learner is admitted to the next module. Modules can be booked and repeated individually. It is also possible to take a break for a while and then re-enter the course. New courses start at the beginning of each month.
REQUIREMENTS
Set up
A PC or laptop with a camera and microphone, stable internet connection and the free video conferencing software "Zoom" are required for successful participation in the online course. It is recommended that you test Zoom out before your first lesson. For the "Starter" course and the A1 course series, children should already be able to read and write in order to actively participate in class.
COURSE TYPES
Three levels
1) Course Starter: This course is designed as an introduction to the German language for literature children between 6 and 8 years.
2) Course A1.1: For children from 8 years of age without prior knowledge or with basic knowledge. In this course, some topics from the Starter course are repeated, but it is also suitable for newcomers.
3) Course A1.2: This course builds on the course A1.1 and leads to language level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. From the age of 10, an official A1 exam in German can be taken at various institutes (e.g. Goethe Institute).
LESSON STRUCTURE
Learning German for Young Learners
The lessons are specially tailored to the needs of young learners. At the beginning of each unit, previous knowledge will be activated. As a course instructor I will motivate each student to actively participate in class. Learning together with other children has the advantage of creating an engaging environment. The teaching material is appealing and clearly structured for children without overwhelming.
INSTRUCTOR
Native speaking teacher
As a German native speaker with several years experience in the classroom and online teaching, I will encourage your child from day one. In class, the language of instruction is German, so that your child will get used to the new language right from the start. For a better understanding, the "Total Physical Response" method, a non-verbal communication method in which body movement is combined with language, is used. This method has proven particularly useful for children when learning foreign languages.
MATERIAL
Course books and learning platform
My German courses are based on course books that are designed for learners of German as a foreign language. Contact me to find out which textbooks I work with. Course and workbooks are required for all group courses (total cost around EUR 20.00), and free material can be used during the first month. The textbooks can be accessed online via the Blinklearning platform on a PC or through an app. A virtual classroom is set up for every German course, so students and parents can receive regular information about the course.
